I guess stuff like this is going to be popping up left and right until January 20th, 2009.
Here is the link just in case the embedding doesn't work.
In geek news, the Federal Communications Commission has finally done something right and voted for the opening up of the "white spaces", swaths of frequencies that will be opened up upon the final extermination of analog television transmissions taking place on February 17, 2009. All of the stations that used to live on channels 2 through thirteen are being sent upriver to the land of the UHF channels (the ones labeled 14 through 80 something).
With this event we now have a chance to get broadband for the masses via the latest generation of wireless networking. More frequencies available nationally make for an environment where solutions can be implemented on a national basis (where cool things like economies of scale kick in making everything cheaper).
Let's hope that it happens sooner rather than later. By the way, Dubya still has over two month to finish running the United States into the ground. Yes, he can.
Peace be with you,
Glenn
